Thanks for identifying that wasp Simone, only one of them comes visiting. I feel sorry for all the insects labelled 'common'.

@Sherwood Cutting this branch back in 2008, attracted a large variety of insects to feed on the sap. Just came across these old photos while cleaning up storage space on my PC. Bees were predominant, but there were also European wasps, potter wasps, flies and two species of butterflies.
